How to Make Homemade Cat Food

It is relatively easy to feed cats especially the ones who are not very choosy with their taste buds. If you want to do away with all the canned and the kibbles, going back to the basics is your best choice. Here are tips on making delicious homemade cat food for your cute little kitties.

1. Avoid food items that are deemed poisonous or harmful to cats.
The list includes most herbs and spices such as onions, garlics, and tomatoes. Forget about raisins, grapes, and raw egg whites as well. Stick to that faithful chunk of meat and just add minimal veggies.

2. Capitalize on protein.
Cats love meats such as chicken, fish, pork, beef, rabbit, and liver. The liver is your best ingredient here, as it is naturally flavorful. Combine it with any other type of meat of your choice and you will be all set.

3. Add a little fat.
You might say that fats are bad for you, but not necessarily for your kitty. Animal fats make homemade cat food tastier than ever. Furthermore, cats need about 30% animal fats in their diet to make their fur and skin healthy. It is also good for the urinary and circulatory system. Just don’t overdo it, okay?

4. Put in some nutrients and vitamins.
Here are where the veggies come in. Adding a few chunks of nutritious vegetables here and there is ideal. Carrot is a good choice. But if your cat doesn’t like it chunked, grate them instead.

5. Add water.
Water is an important ingredient of homemade cat food. Your cooked meal should contain up to 30% water.

6. Lower the carbohydrate content.
Unlike water, carbohydrates is not that important for your cat. Limit the carbohydrate content of your homemade cat food to only 10%.
